Sonia Rykiel ss09

All hale Sonia Rykiel I say! This celebratory collection was done in celebration for her 40th (anniversary of the brand not her age), as always the clothes were absolutely fabulous and free. Sonia Rykiel (brand) is fun and comical without looking ridiculous. This collection is classic Sonia, flowing, soft knits, feminine ruffles and whimsical gowns. Per usual the models danced down the runway, doing there own thing, Irina (Lazareanu) looked like she was on crack (probably was), but Natasha Poly looked adorable shaking her non-existent booty. The show looked like so much fun the first part was designed by the Rykiels and the second was a surprise collection of 30 looks designed by other designer for the show like Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld, the Rodarte sisters and many more. One day I’d be just as awesome as Sonia and have a party just like this one! Enjoy my two collages, one is her collection the other is the surprise collection.

Aww poor Alessandra. I really do love her designs but they just don’t fit under the label of “Valentino”. To me, Valentino is all about, glamour, feminine sex appeal, bright colours and shiny, glittery fabric. But Alessandra’s Valentino is muted, sofy, drape-y, feminine demure-ty, I love that look, just not for Valentino. I would praise this collection if it was under Alessandra’s name but it’s not… I hope one day she will have her own label. I’m not surprised that she’s been “dismissed” from the house of Valentino, I wish Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli all the luck and hope they bring the bright colours and ‘hardcore’ glamour back. But I applaud Alessandra for bringing the flat evening shoe into view.

I’m a big fan of Lacroix’s flamboyant colourful designs and this season was so different. There were colours, frills, embroidery, drapes and different print. “Fun, flirty, short, colourful all those things that make a girl happy” Tinsley Mortimer (or I think that’s what she said). I love the shoes too, bows, anklets, the colours, they really are the shoes that go from day to night. I love you Christian Lacroix!

When I first saw the pictures of this collection on style.com I was in a MSN conversation with Lisa, and briefly this is how it went:
Lisa:
…New shows are up!
Angela:
Really?
Lisa:
Yeah.
Angela:
…Have you seen Chanel?
Angela:
Same old, same old
Lisa:
Yeah, I didn’t bother
Angela:
Mehhhhhh
So, I wasn’t too impressed, but after looking through the collection again on the train this morning (on my phone) my thoughts were totally different. I realised I love the “same old, same old” of Chanel, the tweeds, black and white and simple looks. There was nothing ground breaking but it’s chic and classic and so wearable. But I had one problem, the leather ‘Chanel shopping bags’, I can just see in, in 2 months everyone is going to be trying to imitate it. Oh, I cannot wait…

PS.
What’s with the extended interview with Australian Vogue’s Kirstie Clements? Since when was she big on the scene? Anyway, I’ll be discussing this month’s Aus Vogue in the coming days.
