Well spent $50

24 02 2009

On friday my mum had to do overtime at work, my dad was at a company meeting and I was abandoned in the middle of Melbourne city at about 8:00pm, a lot of the small (ish) boutiques that I frequent were closed and after my unsuccessful trip to the big department stores I was hugely disappointed with commercial Australian fashion (that I could afford) and was not about to visit the memory again (plus I was in school uniform), so I went my merry way to Borders! I was again disappointed by Australia Vogue and Harper’s, so I started flicking through Vogue Paris and Vogue Nippon; none of which I could understand so I put them back and bought an overpriced latte, on my way back to the ‘international magazines’ section of Borders I spotted ‘it’: Vogue Collections Printemps-Ete 2009!

It has officially replaced my last copy of Vogue Collections magazine as my most prized possession made out of paper. I really don’t care for the people who say “$44.95?  On a magazine? Did it come with anything else? No? What’s wrong with you?” but I am liking the sneaky peeks from fellow fashion obsessed train commuters.

Diane von Furstenberg fw09

19 02 2009

was thoroughly disappointed with this whole collection. The DVF I knew and LOVED was colourful, ‘garden party-ish’ and above all very polished. But this? What’s with the dark gloomy colours? Where are the wrap dresses? Has DVF really sunk to the ‘hobo chic’/'getting dressed blindfolded look? WHY THE LEGGINGS?? Has Diane and that little man gone over to ‘the dark side’? Oh and, pom poms? Pom Poms? POM POMS? POM POMS IN YOUR HAIR?

I want the old DVF backkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DKNY FW09

19 02 2009

I’m in love with the Autumn palette Donna Karan has adopted for this collection; oranges, greys, beiges and black suit her designs so perfectly. This collection is so lady like and just superb for the office (yeah, I know I don’t work but I just felt as if I had to say it whether it applied to me or not)!

PS. How awesome does Vlada (Roslyakova) look with red hair? I’m now urging my friend Phoebe to dye her “strawberry blonde hair” red.

Alexander Wang fw09

19 02 2009

When my friends thought Alexander Wang was all the rage, I thought his designs were, well to be honest; shit. But now I can understand why, his designs represent ‘the cool crowd’ and as the time has past, the ‘Alexander Wang girl’ grows into a woman, her style matures and she is pretty damn sexy!

Alexander Wang has sucessfully documented the maturing of a girl to a woman through out his collections.

This season was fantastic, I loved the ‘cut-out’ dresses and the really well fitted blazer. But I’m not quiet sure about the ‘over-the-knee-lycra-80’s aroebics club-shorts’…

It’s hard to avoid your own birthday.

18 02 2009

Dispite my best efforts to avoid my birthday it has failed. I’m avoiding it because I think 15 is such a daunting age and I just don’t like the fact that I have done anything very productive other than have a fashion show in the last year.

I actually haven’t recieved a ‘present’ yet but this was so heart touching for some reason.

HBD

This was from my darling friend Duyen.

Not that Phoebe, Marla and Lauren’s “combined” cake wasn’t good but it was a combined present.

-sigh- another year older, hopefully a little bit wiser.

Lacoste fw0910

16 02 2009

Alternate title could be “Lacoste goes chic”. Lacoste is known for its sporty and colourfulness but this season it has had a complete turnaround, with its pastel palette, jumpsuits, structural pieces and heavy knits, you can’t help but feel some “Stella MacCartney-ness”. For me, the most outstanding detail is the shoes, I’m not sure if they’re thigh high boots or a combination of matching shoes and socks but they are divine!!! If only I had the legs to pull them off…

Blake Lively ‘covering’ Vogue.

15 02 2009

In one expression:

8-O

Wow, I did not expect this AT ALL! I mean if they would have to chose someone they’d chose Leighton Meester right?? BUT BLAKE LIVELY?

“OMG WTF”

The styling and makeup was quiet spectatular, but what would be more spectacular is her face, I do not know anyone that can have pretty much the exact expression in 4 different photos. I mean she’s not ugly, nor is she that bad of an actress but she is just SO NOT VOGUE COVER MATERIAL.

This has offcially put me off US Vogue again.

Well that didn’t take long…

8 02 2009

I had a long and meaningful think last night, and it’s time to face reality: I’m most likely not going back for another year at least, my cousin is coming here for uni and my  uncle is probably coming with him. Also, if I want to go back to china permanently after uni I have to make something out of myself here in Australia first, and that means staying at Mac.Rob. I’m my mum’s focal point when she brags about our life in Australia, because most of my cousins are at Nanjing’s best high school or primary school and wouldn’t it be dreadful if I told them I go to a average, suburban high school?

This trip to China was a real ‘eye-opener’ for me. I’ve stopped denying ‘my Asian-ness’(I’ve become more interested in Chinese culture, I now watch Chinese TV, movies and listen to ‘Asian’ music), I no longer think New York is my only goal (China has huge fashion potential and market) and that being close to family is so important. So I’ll try and go back every opportunity I get because China is actually a pretty cool place!

Ps. I haven’t had time to look at couture week shows yet, I will as soon as I have time.

Pps. I haven’t seen this(or last) month’s Australian Vogue or Bazaar, is it good?
