Style doesn’t have a ’sick day’

30 10 2009

Despite the fact that I feel like a lump of turd I still had to venture into the city at in insanely early hour of the morning to hand my Geography assignment in and getting my password changed for my school email. I was seriously considering putting my uniform back on but decided it probably isn’t a good idea to smell like dirty laundry. So, I faced my wardrobe with one mantra “look presentable, you never know who you’ll bump into” (yes, I live in hope I’ll bump into an Melbournian “blog-lebrity”).

Black pumps: Christian Louboutin

Rose cardigan: MNG

Tortoise shell sunglasses: Thrifted

Bow headband: My own design

I’m kind of cheating here since I wore flats for most of the time (my loubs were in my bag while I walked on the soggy grass on my way to school) and I had to take my headband off while it was raining.

Wish me well.

Chuck’s life less serious champion challenge

25 10 2009

I was invited to participate in the “life less serious challenge” and to be honest I was really looking forward to a getting a parcel containing candy. Imagine my surprise when all of this turned up in a big brown box:

I first toyed with the idea of making a chupa chup wrapper dress but after unwrapping numerous lollipops unsucessfully I gave up. I spent ages staring at the lollypops wondering what I could so, but I wasn’t until I was scared by walking into a room and having Chuck sitting there staring at me that I thought of giving Chuck a makeover! I made him a miniature set of 2 of my favourite designs. I know Chuck’s a boy (I couldn’t check, since his pants are sewn on which made make over a tad hard, seriously, who wears blue tights with a white tutu?) but a little cross dressing never hurt.

I wear black fleece cape, white tulle skirt, velvet headband all by me, shoes by C.Louboutin, strawberry lollypop by Chupa Chupa “>Chup and Chuck wears cape, tutu and hairclip by me and lollypop  by Chupa Chup.

AHAHHA! I love being a blogger, I hope they have a category for “creepiest entry” I’m pretty freaked out looking at it:

More headbands!

22 10 2009

What better to do on a lazy afternoon than to listen to The Postal Service and make headbands on the front porch?

If I get enough requests, I might make and sell more of these (but don’t get your hopes up too high, I don’t have paypal or even an etsy. Express your interest in the comments of this post, they’ll probably be around $30 + postage (I know, I know, but think about it from my perpective! The minimum for most fabric is usually half a metre and everything is hand sewn).

I was pretty annoyed getting glared at because I was somewhat ‘dressed up’ at the RMI waiting room.

A friend to all is a friend to none

18 10 2009

That’s what I’ve learnt this week. Although you try and try to please everybody, you can’t make someone like you or sometimes you just drift a part. So, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. There’s nothing better than spending a day with your friends, laughing uncontrollably down the street,  eating real Italian food at Pellegrinis, and spending hours at the bead shop to make you forget about the horrid week you’ve had. It’s probably not very interesting giving you a play by play so let the picture  speak a thousand words.

It’s probably been ages since I’ve worn flats on a weekend, and it felt weird, not hearing that ‘click click’ when you walk down the street (or have blisters when you get home).

“Boredom is talent wasted” I saw this on a motivational website and immediately motivated me, so I made some ear rings from the trinkets I picked up from the bead shop. I’ve never really been an ‘earring’ person, I mainly stick to studs and pearls but I just couldn’t resist these adorable little cuties.

Also, here’s a little teaser of some of the headbands you’ll see in the coming weeks:

Model Musing

16 10 2009

I’ve always had a soft spot for Natasha Poly, I don’t think I’ve ever dedicated a post to the catwalk queen herself. I must admit her feline, ghostly look isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but that’s what makes her a high fashioned. To me she is the iconic ‘Gucci girl’ well the Frida Giannini Gucci girl anyway, she was recently chosen as the muse for Muse Magazine and they’ve featured a whole magazine to her, called “Natasha Obsessed”. Although I don’t really like her street style I have to admit it suits her! She’s one of a handful that can actually wear leggings as pants. I’m on the fence in regards to Natasha doing Victoria’s Secret again. One part of me thinks since she’s risen above the ‘commercial, underwear model’ standard ( so has Abbey Lee Kershaw, Maryna Linchuck and Catherine McNeil) she  shouldn’t really turn back to the old days when she was bronzed and brown haired, but my favourite Victorias’ Secret show/segment was 2006/aviation flirtation (or something like that) and it was because Natasha was in it, looked amazing and saluted the audience so adorably. Either way, I still want a “Holy Moly it’s Natasha Poly” (Obviously, I’d frame it and never wear it because I am so not a “slogan t-shirt” sort of girl, well maybe something very, very basic and simple)

Best of S/S10

12 10 2009

Best of New York:

Jason Wu, so feminine, so chic, and most importantly it was relevant and wearable!

 00080m 00330m

Zac Posen, yes the colours could potentially burn your retinas but the cutting was divine…

00020m 00070m

Marchesa, who doesn’t love Marchesa? It is the creme de la creme of formal wear.

00030m 00080m

Best of Milan:

Moschino, it was classic but not bland. The accessories were adorable, and that pearl embellished boucle jacket made my heart melt like butter on warm toast (sorry, just watched ‘confessions of a shopaholic’ BTW such a crap, stereotypical movie)

 00010m 00190m

Versace, it got me actually excited about summer, need I say more?

 00130m 00380m

Dolce and Gabbana. Three words, wow, wow, wee! Sexy and retro, but ignor the shoes, oh please ignore the disgustig shoes.

 00020m 00120m

Best of Paris:

Lanvin, sculptural, feminine, all out pure Lanvin!

 00010m 00180m

Christian Dior, I know I didn’t review this collection but I did love it, really, I did! Galliano added a dash sportif to his usual sexy concoctions. The delicate slip dresses paired with the trench coats were so divine.

 00020m 00430m

Valentino, again, I didn’t review it but this collection has rekindled my love for valentino. There was just something so stunningly beautiful about the ruffled semi opaque organza and gothic black lace.

Who were your favourites?

Brunch

10 10 2009

Brunch is the only meal that I can eat a chocolate and almond croissant without feeling guilty…

Sorry for the lack of words, my brain has vanished into a black hole, and my ribs are killing me, hopefully I get my brain back so I can finish my homework.

Chanel S/S10

7 10 2009

-sigh- You know, I’m not a massive fan of Chanel, never really have been and I’m afraid until Karl decides to do something drastic or retire and a new designer comes a long I’m afraid I never will be head over heels in love with Chanel. There hasn’t been a collection since S/S07 where I have loved everything in the whole show, there are always elements that I absolutely hate but also elements I just can’t help but fall in love with. usually it’s the clothes I hate and the shoes/accessories that I love but this season it’s the opposite! The clothes were stunningly intricate, but outrageously not over the top. There were just enough classic, and elegant pieces to balance the cute, sexy, sneaky (probably isn’t the right word) chiffon dresses and thigh split dresses. The wooden clogs made me sick in the stomach, and the stockings… arhg COPY CAT Nina Ricci Fall 2007 (here)! There was a surprising lack of bags which usually is a bit of a life-line for me…

To be fair, I probably should consider the performance side of things because Karl loves to put on a show (yes, at none other than the Grand Palais). The barn set was very impressive, Lily Allen did a little song, not to mention the huge audience of celebrities and apparently “at the end, Freja Beha Erichsen, Lara Stone, and Lagerfeld’s constant companion, Baptiste Giabiconi, were literally rolling around in the hay together” (source-style.com) that in it self would be worth seeing!

What would you wear to the races?

6 10 2009

Ok, I’m not too fond of horses but… come on guys, as if it’s actually about the horses, it’s just another excuse to dress up! As a loyal Nuff Nang-er and fan of the Melbourne GPO, I’m entering their competition for opportunity to win a 2 hour shopping experience at the GPO with your favourite blogger! I obviously would have loved to be selected as a judge as ‘one of the favourite bloggers’ but hey, if I win I would get $500 to spend, and who doesn’t love $500?!

So far I have no plans to go to the spring racing carnival so this is just some forward thinking:

Dress: My own design

Clutch: My own design

Headband: My own design

Necklace (sort of hidden): Funqi

Shoes: Christian louboutin

Wish me luck, I’d love to spend 2 hours shopping at GPO with the lovely Fashion Hayley!

Lanvin S/S10

4 10 2009

This collection was absolutely magnificent, everything was breathtaking. The peplum dresses, plisse jumpsuits, chain strap shoes, all of it, everything was deeply ‘lanvin’; sculptural yet feminine. Alber Elbaz is a genious! There really aren’t enough praise in the world I could type to describe how much I love this collection so why don’t you take a look for yourselves?
