The good thing about knowing how to sew and design is the ability to whip something up when you have one of those ‘full wardrobe and nothing to wear’ moments. My blogging and designing mojo’s been a bit low lately, so forgive me for the lack of posts during the past week. It wasn’t until the beginning of last week when I needed something to wear that I started this jacket and skirt ensemble and once I started, nothing could stop it, all I could think about was how to do this hem or how to finish that seam to make it fit better et cetera et cetera! This is the first jacket I made and it in fact is actually a mock up! But since it turned out quite nice I thought why not?
This is a skirt I’ve always wanted to make but never got around to because I thought the combination of the fabrics and rouching wouldn’t be very flattering, but after a few different tweeks and help from my lovely VET teacher I was(gladly) proven wrong!

I’ve been a very busy bee lately! Sewing, designing, doing homework, and attempting to have a social life I’ve had no time to do any outfit photos! So I’m making it up by posting my new designs, I was going to wait until there were more…

Friday the 11th was red day! Red to help raise awearness of women and heart disease. Ahh yes, I did plan my red collection around this. I needed to get it all down so I had a nice array of garments to chose from!
Cape: My own design
Skirt: My own design
Shoes: Shabanina (I actually ended up wearing my Bonbons instead because I lost the insoles and theses are really uncomfortable without insoles)
Headband: My own design
Leopard bracelet: Ebay
I also finished this dress during the week. It’s black cotton jersey and lace with a slightly padded shoulder.

4 Weeks and taaadaaaa! Finally it’s done! So here are the sketch again, everything’s pretty much the same except for the bow on the cape and the peplum.
These first ones are made out of cotton sateen:
Side pleat pencil skirt with rosettes
Circle skirt with black binding
Square neck, pleated dress
Gathered skirt with bow
The following are made from wool
Side peplum skirt
Pleated cape with bow
And here’s an out take that I want to include!
Depending on the feedback I think I might even make some more and sell some of these!

I am loving Florence and the machine at the moment, I initally hated the song ‘kiss with a fist’ because it was so over played but after downloading her album out of sheer boredom I feel in love with her voice! Also right now, musically I’m loving Delphic, Tame Impala, Vampire Weekend, Marina and the diamonds and Glee’s covers of Lady Gaga. I don’t understand what people have against Glee, it’s a nice light hearted show, they do their own covers of popular songs, sometimes it’s corny that doesn’t mean they’re ‘ruining’ them! Anyway, I’ve got a 6 day weekend so the red collection will be completely finished by tuesday!!

I’m not big on just posting editorials on my blog but I have to make and exception with this. I use to be a big fan of Behati Prinsloo until she became a VS PINK girl which took her away from high fashion and editorial work but she’s made a great comeback with this i-D editorial. I actually found the video with the poem first and then the editorial itself. I don’t really even love the styling I just love the fact that Behati and Jamie are in it!
Meet me at the corner, Kayt Jones. i-D summer 2010
Behati Prinsloo and Jamie Strachan
Hope you love it as much as I do
