Met Ball 2011
May 8, 2011 § 11 Comments
It’s that time of year again, my favourite gathering of all of my favourite designers and muses! This year’s gala honoured Alexander McQueen with Florence and the Machine performing. Really couldn’t get better! This year was the year of young’ns, the Fanning sisters, Emily Browning, glee girls, and Taylor Swift were just some of the young Hollywood crop in attendance. I really shouldn’t be but I was surprised that beige/neutral was the colour for the night.
Blake Lively in Chanel
Taylor Swift in J. Mendel(love the bodice, hate the skirt)
Sarah Burton in her own McQueen design
Dakota Fanning in Valentino
Michelle Williams in Miu Miu
Best Dressed: Diane Kruger in Jason Wu
Most breathtaking: Shalom Harlow in Marchesa
Best make up look: Emma Stone in Lanvin and bright fuchsia lips
Most Dramatic: Christina Ricci in Zac Posen
Worst Dressed: Madonna in Stella McCartney, unflattering and wrinkled
Most shocking: Anna Dello Russo in McQueen, yep I know, J’ADR her normally but nop, from the knee down it was a disaster. Flares, like that, just no…
Cutest couple: Anna Wintour + Bee Shaffer, they were almost worst dressed but nawww the mother and daughter pair just look so cute together.
Who were your favourites from the ball?

Golden Globes and Pre-Fall Shows
January 20, 2011 § 13 Comments
Thanks everyone for the mostly positive response on my latest DIY. Who know’s? I might do some more! I’ve been feeling super slack about blogging lately, I haven’t really collated enough to make a post in any category but I’m eager to do a post so forgive me if this seems a little all over the place. I could have done a ‘show review’ or ‘golden globes’ post but let’s MISH MASH! I’ve finally caught up with all the Pre-Fall shows, I mean it’s ABOUT TIME, Couture season is in a few weeks! I am head over heels in love with Valentino, hello, why was there no Valentino at the Golden Globes?
Monique Lhuillier was surprisingly glorious, it had just the right amount of colour and patterns.
And finally Jason Wu, again surprised I didn’t see many on the red carpet but Oscars is soon so maybe then? There was some really gorgeous and tactful colour blocking, and very wearable but not at all commercial looking.
Also worth mentioning was Oscar de la Renta (good old ODLR is always fantastic) and Erdem for the most divine blue lace dress! I can really see that on Blair Waldorf, are you listening Eric Daman?
Moving on, Golden Globes: Nothing was really outstanding but I liked Mila Kunis and Olivia Wilde.
January Jones has a ripping body so she looks good in everything, whether the fashion tape factory had to shut down in order to supply her with enough tape to hold that dress put is still unclear.
Natalie Portman is pregnant and no one really can diss a pregnant woman so now’s the only time she can wear pink and red together and go her for cashing in on the opportunity!
Christina hendricks who usually look fantastic looked like she had a growth coming out of her shoulder.
And drum roll for the biggest disappointment of the night: Emma Stone, who you know I just adore to bits but the ILLUSION IS SHATTERED! Look, when you’re wearing coral and it blends in with your skin, there is something majorly wrong with your tan and your hair is lighter. She NEEDED a statement necklace, belt or even a BROOCH for goodness sake to break it all up! However the backless/cut out so that’s a slight plus for me.
Who was your favourite? At the pre-fall shows and the Globes?

LMFF 2010

Every year for the past 3 years we’ve gone and we’ve been disappointed with our squint seats (you have to squint or have a really good camera to see the clothes); with the only thing raising our spirits being the celebrities and models we meet. This year, Doutzen wasn’t here, I didn’t get to yell out ‘Miranda Otto i love you’ (yes, to Miranda Otto) and we sat further back than ever despite booking as early as ever, the seating arrangement was very different due to the ‘one sided’ catwalk, meaning everyone was squished to the other side. I did however get excited about seeing some amazing street style and bump into some bloggers. There were a few ensembles that were memorable, one being the gorgeous girl in the magenta jumpsuit and the other being (possibly dion lee’s girlfriend) wearing a stunning pair of these, blue scuba skirt and a sheer blouse. But I did get to say a quick hello to Lady Melbourne , spoke with Hayley a few times, and sat next to the gorgeous Little Black Book (but couldn’t get any pictures because there were several exits so the ‘wait out the front’ thing didn’t work out so well, and my friends wanted dinner afterwards). Speaking of beautiful people Annika Kaban was strutting her stuff on the catwalk again this year, gosh I love this girl, I wonder why she’s not up there with Abbey Lee, Cat Mac and Skye? She’s just as gorgeous and looks as versatile. She needs a big campaign or cover, fast! Oh and we saw Cassi Van Den Dungen… Boy, was I surprised… I’d never watched ANTM I’ve only seen her pictures from the papers and website that reported on her ‘bogan behaviour’. It took us the whole duration of the show to realise it was indeed her! I think she was picked up by her mum at the end of the show, actually 3 or 4 models were picked up by a parent or guardian, ‘naw cute’! Anyway, even though I’d seen some of the collections -Collette Dinnigan showed in Paris a few weeks ago, Sass and Bide showed in London and last month, Toni Maticevski also showed in NY it was still a good experience. Moreover, I did grow fond of the bi-colour chanel-esque tights, I think they were Lavante, I’ve got to get my hands on some before autumn really hits us!
This year again, I went with my two best friends Lisa and Bianca, who both looked amazing and thanks to Bianca we also got some amazing photos!
We tried out hand at some ‘jakandjil’ style photos. Ha, I think that’s best left to Tommy Ton.
Then we had dinner at one of the overpriced restaurants next to central pier.

Nina Ricci Fall 2010

Wow, it really is “au revoir” Olivier Theyskens and “Bonjour” Peter Copping! I must say although I love the theatrical delight and the creativity of Theysken’s Ricci, I’m really enjoying the quintessential YSL meets Dior Parisian chic of Copping’s collection. Slip dresses/skirts, sexy yet appropriate grey skirt suit, tasteful appliqués on sheer tops and those stacked platforms are just deeeeeee-vineeeeeeeeeeeeee. If next season is as amazing as this one I’m most definitely adding Nina Ricci to my favourite designs list and Peter Copping to my favourite designers list!
