Design your own bikini with Surania

November 19, 2012 § 3 Comments

A while ago I was contacted by the lovely people over at Surania to try out their custom bikini service. YES. CUSTOM BATHING SUITS. EXACTLY WHAT HAS BEEN MISSING FROM MY LIFE (all I need now is to be able to design custom shoes and I am SET!). So to say I was happy to oblige would be an absolute understatement. Remember those fashion design gamed for tweens where you pick out outlines for tops, dressed, shoes etc, then the colours, patterns? Surania is like the grown up version of that except you can get your design made! I’ve long wanted to design and make my own bikinis except swimsuit Lycra is so hard to tame and a bikini is just too fiddly for me. The shopping was just such a breeze and a lot of fun. You first select the shape of the top and bottoms (or one piece if you so desire) you wish to unleash your creativity on. Then you’re faced with the fun filled task of choosing patterns/colours (there’s an amazing array to suit everyone’s taste) and accessories such as baubles and rings -I spent at least 4 hours playing around with all kinds of designs before I settled on this nautical inspired look- Finally, when you’ve finally chosen the look that floats your boat, you enter your measurements, pay and your design goes into production! Throughout the whole process the total price of your design so far is displayed on the top right corner for those who like to keep their bank balance in mind. A few short weeks weeks later, your design arrives at your door! I was so excited to wear it I went to the beach the week I got it even though it isn’t quite warm enough yet! Overall, the whole process was smooth and fun…. DID I MENTION FUN??? But because it is made to measure, I cannot emphasize the importance of correct measurements! Get someone experienced to do your measurements as I correct fitting bikinis are vital! Trust me, I went through a tough period of ill fitting, last minute bikinis at the start of this year when I suddenly grew a fondness of impromptu beach trips.
Head on over to www.surania.com and have a play!
Thanks Surania!

My Sartorial Life Through Instagram

September 25, 2012 § 7 Comments

Instagram is the stuff of wonders, but my admitted addiction has cause me to forget the importance of posting here! I must say, I use to be quite elitist about Instagrams and ‘mirror selfies’ but my friends have converted me and I really must say it is a lot of fun and a whole lot easier than hauling my Nikon out, setting it up and doing my outfit posts every morning (especially in winter when I’d hardly be able to get any good lighting before or after work) and the filters are pretty forgiving when it comes to lighting and focus. So here’s just a glimpse of my sartorial life through Instagram:
A bit of outfit planning
Cherry Red lipstick to brighten up a B&W day(Bamboo skirt by me)
Adorable new sweater and jewelry printed skirt by meEnjoying the first peek of spring sunshine and loving mum’s Equipment blouse (she’s not loving that I’m rolling around the lawn in it)New Buys!Striped sweater and new patterned tightsBasically the first time in months I’ve worn my cardigan NOT buttoned up the backSpeaking of backwards cardigans. With bright pink blazer, dotty jeans and embellished nude Mary Janes

Mismatched

I’ve finally figuratively gotten back on the horse, and started sewing again. While I still love some serious colour blocking, I’m also feeling more into prints, more specifically cotton sateen prints. Haven’t had enough time to shoot all the skirts I’ve made over the past couple of days but here’s a preview of things to comeThese days finding the right balance between what’s appropriate for work and what I enjoy wearing is getting a lot easier. Thanks to a love blazers and heels from a young age! Different shades of purple

May 23, 2012 § 19 Comments

Please let me first apologise for the quality of these photos. These days I’d be lucky to get any natural light after returning home from work, taking outfit photos on self timer just seemed like far too much effort(I actually put out a call for someone with ANY photography prowess to come and take my blog photos everyday on twitter, alas no takers). Feeling the guilt of not blogging for over a month, I begged mum to take my outfit photo, forgetting mother’s photography skills are-and limited to-; taking pictures of food she cooks, taking pictures of my food and taking pictures of paddocks while on the train all of which are done on her blackberry. I am very grateful to her however that I have anything to show at all after screwing up the setting on my DSLR trying to capture the insanely beautiful, bright moon (is there a magic reset button on my Nikon D3000 that I can jab a pin into?) Anyway, I am loving purple lately.Cashmere jumper: Designed by me, knitted in homeland//scarf: zaraBi-colour chiffon skirt: My own design//Taffetta jacket: Huckabees//Patent mary-janes: LFDM//Rings: gifts and eBay//Bag: LFDM//Scarf: Gifted
