Chanel Resort/Cruise 2010
May 17, 2009 § 2 Comments
Along the snaking boardwalk of Venice Lido, (a place popular with Coco Chanel in summer) models waltzed down the catwalk in clusters. Some like sex on the beach, others like walk on the beach, I like fashion by the beach. Nah, I’m not that huge on beaches. But this resort/cruise collection really won me back over to the Chanel side, after a few seasons I was beginning to think Karl had run out of ideas. I’m so glad he waved his wand and “reinvented the mystique” as quoted.
There were cloaks (oh, how very Harry Potter, Lisa will be happy about that), tricorne hats, girdles, bikinis, sailor suits, plenty of stripes, shimmery sequins and my favourite, pleated dresses. Not to mention the masquerade mask style sunglasses , someone sign me up for a pair NOW!
All the models I thought were off the scene was back(Inguna Butane and Snejana Onopka) but my favs(Natasha Poly and Vlada Roslyakova) weren’t there!
Oh I hope this forecasts a congruent collection for ss10! If so I would be a happy chappy!

PS. Do you think the crew of muses, editors and celebrities on the side got sand in their shoe?
Ads, Chanel vs Bonds
May 5, 2009 § 7 Comments
So, I was watching TV the other night and I saw this Bonds Cottontails ad with Sarah Murdoch:
Isn’t it just Divine?! One of the best ads ever!
But, also, this morning after hoping on to ninemsn very early to check my email/s I saw the new Chanel no.5 film.
And I fiddled with some screen capping…
Hmm… Ok I’m going to be honest, the ad (especially compared to the one with Keira and Nicole) sucks! Audrey is gorgeous, and so are the clothes (or there lack of) but nothing “wow”ed me. I’ve very disappointed… But hey, you can watch and see for yourselves either at http://ninemsn.com.au/ or on Channel 9 tonight at 7:30.

Chanel was so disappointing, but every few seasons Chanel does a shockingly fantastic collection and you fall right back in love with it. Maybe Karl’s starting to feel the Finacial Crash? Mehh probably not, it’s not a very Lagerfeld thing to do… Still… very disappointing, I know consistency is good but this was all quite plain; the coat dresses, satin pants and tweed suits. Well ok the printed, lycra body suits were a tad weird… in a bad way. -sigh-

Only the coolest get to hang at Chanel.

Although the collection was disappointing(more about it later), the soiree afterwards was a feast for the fashion fans. Lily Allen, Kate Moss, Erin Fetherston, Freida Pinto, Angela Lindvall and the rest retired to none other than Madamoiselle Coco Chanel’s Rue Cambon’s appartment to celebrate “Another fashion book”. By ‘retired’ I meant smoked and drank. -grunts- How amazing would it be to be invited?

When I first saw the pictures of this collection on style.com I was in a MSN conversation with Lisa, and briefly this is how it went:
Lisa:
…New shows are up!
Angela:
Really?
Lisa:
Yeah.
Angela:
…Have you seen Chanel?
Angela:
Same old, same old
Lisa:
Yeah, I didn’t bother
Angela:
Mehhhhhh
So, I wasn’t too impressed, but after looking through the collection again on the train this morning (on my phone) my thoughts were totally different. I realised I love the “same old, same old” of Chanel, the tweeds, black and white and simple looks. There was nothing ground breaking but it’s chic and classic and so wearable. But I had one problem, the leather ‘Chanel shopping bags’, I can just see in, in 2 months everyone is going to be trying to imitate it. Oh, I cannot wait…

PS.
What’s with the extended interview with Australian Vogue’s Kirstie Clements? Since when was she big on the scene? Anyway, I’ll be discussing this month’s Aus Vogue in the coming days.
What’s with the bob?
June 26, 2008 § 2 Comments
Is Karl Lagerfeld’s new obsession ‘the bob’? After observing two campaigns he shot and styled I think it is! The Chanel fw0809 Claudia sported a YSL style black bob. Even though I loved the collection itself, but the Claudia? As in Claudia Schiffer! 38 years old! –Hyperventilates- Karl really needs to get ‘out with the old and in with the new’! I would much prefer Vlada (Roslyakova) or –sighs dreamily- Daria (Werbowy).
Case two, Fendi, same model, same style different hair! Here’s Raquel Zimmerman with a blonde bob!
Hmm looks like they were channeling YSL/ Naomi C at Chanel.
And Anna Wintour at Fendi.
hmm…
xxangela
BTW, what’s with Raquel’s tanky arms?
