Formal 2011 + designs/clothes for sale!
August 13, 2011 § 9 Comments
I contemplated whether to blog about formal or not, normally I refrain from blogging about my school functions/social life unrelated to blogging (had to hold back from posting the pictures from our fundraiser international ball a few months back) but I think formal can be a special exception. To be honest, I expected a whole lot of this:
but it ended up being more like this:
It was a nice night despite some of the usual disasters of running late/not finding a cab/having too many pres/dancing with sore feet/people stepping on your dress… Speaking of the dress, ta da!
I found it so hard to keep it a secret for the past month (or two?) leading up to the event because I’m over excited the type to post ‘in the making’ photos. The top is lace, sequin and modal, skirt is cotton and the overlay is silk chiffon, the back is all lace with a scalloped cutout.
I designed it so the skirt is detachable so I don’t trip and hurt myself while getting my jig on to Swedish House Mafia (which they didn’t actually end up playing -shakes fist-)or end up with foot/shoe prints all over the bottom of the dress (even though I ended up getting a good slosh of pumpkin soup but that’s a story for another day). And so I didn’t have to design something else to wear to the after party.
It took me substantially longer than any of my other designs as I just could not make up my mind about anything and everything and also because the bottom tier/ruffle is about 10 meters of chiffon. I paired it with all silver jewelry (including a new bamboo bangle!), Loubies of course and an abstract hardware clutch. No formal/prom is without millions of pictures with your friends.

First Designs of 2011
January 10, 2011 § 25 Comments
I have a problem, I can’t plan an outfit too early, whenever do, my mind wonders and I subconsciously try to out do my last selections and start doubting myself, and before you know it, I’m off sketching and draping. I made 2 dresses before I reached a design I was content with for new years eve(the triple strapped dress), which I made on the morning in stifling heat because I was scared of perspiration stains on the beige dress. That’s me and c’est la vie
These are shown in the order in which I made and then outdid for many different reasons. haha!
Black bow neck dress with lace back and drape sleeves

Beige cotton sateen dress with cascade peplum, pleated sleeves and bow

Triple lace strapped backless dress with button v-neck

With all the skirts I’ve made I’m in serious lack of tops and blouses to go with them so I went for a simple tank style top in light fabrics to cope with the heat of summer.
Paint splattered low back top with ruffled jabot

Red crepe top with ruffled jabot
Check out this awesome photo I took as a bit of a behind the scenes thing. A pair of loubies for every look

Rouched skirt, boxy jacket.
June 28, 2010 § 12 Comments
The good thing about knowing how to sew and design is the ability to whip something up when you have one of those ‘full wardrobe and nothing to wear’ moments. My blogging and designing mojo’s been a bit low lately, so forgive me for the lack of posts during the past week. It wasn’t until the beginning of last week when I needed something to wear that I started this jacket and skirt ensemble and once I started, nothing could stop it, all I could think about was how to do this hem or how to finish that seam to make it fit better et cetera et cetera! This is the first jacket I made and it in fact is actually a mock up! But since it turned out quite nice I thought why not?
This is a skirt I’ve always wanted to make but never got around to because I thought the combination of the fabrics and rouching wouldn’t be very flattering, but after a few different tweeks and help from my lovely VET teacher I was(gladly) proven wrong!
